The session framework\nlets you store and retrieve arbitrary data on a per-site-visitor basis. It\nstores data on the server side and abstracts the sending and receiving of\ncookies. Cookies contain a session ID – not the data itself (unless you’re\nusing the <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"#cookie-session-backend\"><span class=\"std std-ref\">cookie based backend</span></a>).</p>\n<section id=\"enabling-sessions\">\n<h2>Enabling sessions<a class=\"heading-anchor\" href=\"#enabling-sessions\"><span class=\"visually-hidden\">Link to this heading</span><span aria-hidden=\"true\">#</span></a></h2>\n<p>Sessions are implemented via a piece of <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/middleware/\"><span class=\"doc\">middleware</span></a>.</p>\n<p>To enable session functionality, do the following:</p>\n<ul class=\"simple\">\n<li><p>Edit the <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-MIDDLEWARE\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">MIDDLEWARE</span></code></a> setting and make sure it contains\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">'django.contrib.sessions.middleware.SessionMiddleware'</span></code>. The default\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">settings.py</span></code> created by <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">django-admin</span> <span class=\"pre\">startproject</span></code> has\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SessionMiddleware</span></code> activated.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p>If you don’t want to use sessions, you might as well remove the\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SessionMiddleware</span></code> line from <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-MIDDLEWARE\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">MIDDLEWARE</span></code></a> and\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">'django.contrib.sessions'</span></code> from your <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-INSTALLED_APPS\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">INSTALLED_APPS</span></code></a>.\nIt’ll save you a small bit of overhead.</p>\n</section>\n<section id=\"configuring-the-session-engine\">\n<span id=\"configuring-sessions\"></span><h2>Configuring the session engine<a class=\"heading-anchor\" href=\"#configuring-the-session-engine\"><span class=\"visually-hidden\">Link to this heading</span><span aria-hidden=\"true\">#</span></a></h2>\n<p>By default, Django stores sessions in your database (using the model\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">django.contrib.sessions.models.Session</span></code>). Though this is convenient, in\nsome setups it’s faster to store session data elsewhere, so Django can be\nconfigured to store session data on your filesystem or in your cache.</p>\n<section id=\"using-database-backed-sessions\">\n<h3>Using database-backed sessions<a class=\"heading-anchor\" href=\"#using-database-backed-sessions\"><span class=\"visually-hidden\">Link to this heading</span><span aria-hidden=\"true\">#</span></a></h3>\n<p>If you want to use a database-backed session, you need to add\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">'django.contrib.sessions'</span></code> to your <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-INSTALLED_APPS\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">INSTALLED_APPS</span></code></a> setting.</p>\n<p>Once you have configured your installation, run <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">manage.py</span> <span class=\"pre\">migrate</span></code>\nto install the single database table that stores session data.</p>\n</section>\n<section id=\"using-cached-sessions\">\n<span id=\"cached-sessions-backend\"></span><h3>Using cached sessions<a class=\"heading-anchor\" href=\"#using-cached-sessions\"><span class=\"visually-hidden\">Link to this heading</span><span aria-hidden=\"true\">#</span></a></h3>\n<p>For better performance, you may want to use a cache-based session backend.</p>\n<p>To store session data using Django’s cache system, you’ll first need to make\nsure you’ve configured your cache; see the <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/topics/cache/\"><span class=\"doc\">cache documentation</span></a> for details.</p>\n<aside class=\"admonition admonition-warning\" role=\"note\">\n<p class=\"admonition-title\">경고</p>\n<p>You should only use cache-based sessions if you’re using the Memcached\ncache backend. The local-memory cache backend doesn’t retain data long\nenough to be a good choice, and it’ll be faster to use file or database\nsessions directly instead of sending everything through the file or\ndatabase cache backends. Additionally, the local-memory cache backend is\nNOT multi-process safe, therefore probably not a good choice for production\nenvironments.</p>\n</aside>\n<p>If you have multiple caches defined in <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-CACHES\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">CACHES</span></code></a>, Django will use the\ndefault cache. To use another cache, set <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-SESSION_CACHE_ALIAS\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SESSION_CACHE_ALIAS</span></code></a> to the\nname of that cache.</p>\n<p>Once your cache is configured, you’ve got two choices for how to store data in\nthe cache:</p>\n<ul class=\"simple\">\n<li><p>Set <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-SESSION_ENGINE\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SESSION_ENGINE</span></code></a> to\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">&quot;django.contrib.sessions.backends.cache&quot;</span></code> for a simple caching session\nstore. Session data will be stored directly in your cache. However, session\ndata may not be persistent: cached data can be evicted if the cache fills\nup or if the cache server is restarted.</p></li>\n<li><p>For persistent, cached data, set <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-SESSION_ENGINE\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SESSION_ENGINE</span></code></a> to\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">&quot;django.contrib.sessions.backends.cached_db&quot;</span></code>. This uses a\nwrite-through cache – every write to the cache will also be written to\nthe database. Session reads only use the database if the data is not\nalready in the cache.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<p>Both session stores are quite fast, but the simple cache is faster because it\ndisregards persistence. In most cases, the <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">cached_db</span></code> backend will be fast\nenough, but if you need that last bit of performance, and are willing to let\nsession data be expunged from time to time, the <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">cache</span></code> backend is for you.</p>\n<p>If you use the <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">cached_db</span></code> session backend, you also need to follow the\nconfiguration instructions for the <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"#using-database-backed-sessions\">using database-backed sessions</a>.</p>\n</section>\n<section id=\"using-file-based-sessions\">\n<h3>Using file-based sessions<a class=\"heading-anchor\" href=\"#using-file-based-sessions\"><span class=\"visually-hidden\">Link to this heading</span><span aria-hidden=\"true\">#</span></a></h3>\n<p>To use file-based sessions, set the <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-SESSION_ENGINE\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SESSION_ENGINE</span></code></a> setting to\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">&quot;django.contrib.sessions.backends.file&quot;</span></code>.</p>\n<p>You might also want to set the <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-SESSION_FILE_PATH\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SESSION_FILE_PATH</span></code></a> setting (which\ndefaults to output from <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">tempfile.gettempdir()</span></code>, most likely <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">/tmp</span></code>) to\ncontrol where Django stores session files. Be sure to check that your Web\nserver has permissions to read and write to this location.</p>\n</section>\n<section id=\"using-cookie-based-sessions\">\n<span id=\"cookie-session-backend\"></span><h3>Using cookie-based sessions<a class=\"heading-anchor\" href=\"#using-cookie-based-sessions\"><span class=\"visually-hidden\">Link to this heading</span><span aria-hidden=\"true\">#</span></a></h3>\n<p>To use cookies-based sessions, set the <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-SESSION_ENGINE\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SESSION_ENGINE</span></code></a> setting to\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">&quot;django.contrib.sessions.backends.signed_cookies&quot;</span></code>. The session data will be\nstored using Django’s tools for <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/topics/signing/\"><span class=\"doc\">cryptographic signing</span></a>\nand the <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-SECRET_KEY\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SECRET_KEY</span></code></a> setting.</p>\n<aside class=\"admonition admonition-note\" role=\"note\">\n<p class=\"admonition-title\">참고</p>\n<p>It’s recommended to leave the <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-SESSION_COOKIE_HTTPONLY\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SESSION_COOKIE_HTTPONLY</span></code></a> setting\non <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">True</span></code> to prevent access to the stored data from JavaScript.</p>\n</aside>\n<aside class=\"admonition admonition-warning\" role=\"note\">\n<p class=\"admonition-title\">경고</p>\n<p><strong>If the SECRET_KEY is not kept secret and you are using the</strong>\n<a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"#django.contrib.sessions.serializers.PickleSerializer\" title=\"django.contrib.sessions.serializers.PickleSerializer\"><code class=\"xref py py-class docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">PickleSerializer</span></code></a>, <strong>this can\nlead to arbitrary remote code execution.</strong></p>\n<p>An attacker in possession of the <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-SECRET_KEY\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SECRET_KEY</span></code></a> can not only\ngenerate falsified session data, which your site will trust, but also\nremotely execute arbitrary code, as the data is serialized using pickle.</p>\n<p>If you use cookie-based sessions, pay extra care that your secret key is\nalways kept completely secret, for any system which might be remotely\naccessible.</p>\n<p><strong>The session data is signed but not encrypted</strong></p>\n<p>When using the cookies backend the session data can be read by the client.</p>\n<p>A MAC (Message Authentication Code) is used to protect the data against\nchanges by the client, so that the session data will be invalidated when being\ntampered with. The same invalidation happens if the client storing the\ncookie (e.g. your user’s browser) can’t store all of the session cookie and\ndrops data. Even though Django compresses the data, it’s still entirely\npossible to exceed the <a class=\"reference external\" href=\"https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2965#section-5.3\">common limit of 4096 bytes</a> per cookie.</p>\n<p><strong>No freshness guarantee</strong></p>\n<p>Note also that while the MAC can guarantee the authenticity of the data\n(that it was generated by your site, and not someone else), and the\nintegrity of the data (that it is all there and correct), it cannot\nguarantee freshness i.e. that you are being sent back the last thing you\nsent to the client. This means that for some uses of session data, the\ncookie backend might open you up to <a class=\"reference external\" href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replay_attack\">replay attacks</a>. Unlike other session\nbackends which keep a server-side record of each session and invalidate it\nwhen a user logs out, cookie-based sessions are not invalidated when a user\nlogs out. Thus if an attacker steals a user’s cookie, they can use that\ncookie to login as that user even if the user logs out. Cookies will only\nbe detected as ‘stale’ if they are older than your\n<a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/settings/#std-setting-SESSION_COOKIE_AGE\"><code class=\"xref std std-setting docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SESSION_COOKIE_AGE</span></code></a>.</p>\n<p><strong>Performance</strong></p>\n<p>Finally, the size of a cookie can have an impact on the <a class=\"reference external\" href=\"https://yuiblog.com/blog/2007/03/01/performance-research-part-3/\">speed of your site</a>.</p>\n</aside>\n</section>\n</section>\n<section id=\"using-sessions-in-views\">\n<h2>Using sessions in views<a class=\"heading-anchor\" href=\"#using-sessions-in-views\"><span class=\"visually-hidden\">Link to this heading</span><span aria-hidden=\"true\">#</span></a></h2>\n<p>When <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">SessionMiddleware</span></code> is activated, each <a class=\"reference internal\" href=\"/ko/2.0/ref/request-response/#django.http.HttpRequest\" title=\"django.http.HttpRequest\"><code class=\"xref py py-class docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">HttpRequest</span></code></a>\nobject – the first argument to any Django view function – will have a\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">session</span></code> attribute, which is a dictionary-like object.</p>\n<p>You can read it and write to <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">request.session</span></code> at any point in your view.\nYou can edit it multiple times.</p>\n<dl class=\"py class\">\n<dt class=\"sig sig-object py\" id=\"django.contrib.sessions.backends.base.SessionBase\">\n<em class=\"property\"><span class=\"k\"><span class=\"pre\">class</span></span><span class=\"w\"> </span></em><span class=\"sig-prename descclassname\"><span class=\"pre\">backends.base.</span></span><span class=\"sig-name descname\"><span class=\"pre\">SessionBase</span></span><a class=\"heading-anchor\" href=\"#django.contrib.sessions.backends.base.SessionBase\"><span class=\"visually-hidden\">Link to this definition</span><span aria-hidden=\"true\">#</span></a></dt>\n<dd><p>This is the base class for all session objects. If you’re using the database backend, the\n<code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">django_session</span></code> database table will grow. If you’re using the file backend,\nyour temporary directory will contain an increasing number of files.</p>\n<p>To understand this problem, consider what happens with the database backend.\nWhen a user logs in, Django adds a row to the <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">django_session</span></code> database\ntable. Django updates this row each time the session data changes. If the user\nlogs out manually, Django deletes the row. But if the user does <em>not</em> log out,\nthe row never gets deleted. A similar process happens with the file backend.</p>\n<p>Django does <em>not</em> provide automatic purging of expired sessions. Therefore,\nit’s your job to purge expired sessions on a regular basis. This makes session fixation possible if cookies are permitted from\nsubdomains not controlled by trusted users.</p>\n<p>For example, an attacker could log into <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">good.example.com</span></code> and get a valid\nsession for their account. If the attacker has control over <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">bad.example.com</span></code>,\nthey can use it to send their session key to you since a subdomain is permitted\nto set cookies on <code class=\"docutils literal notranslate\"><span class=\"pre\">*.example.com</span></code>.
